Everyone likes a happy story

Isnt that true?

We like watching movies with happy endings, sports where our favourite teams win etc

And unless you are really a fan of a particular kind of art, a melancholic film just wouldn't suit most people's tastes. We all like to be happy, and its only natural we wish to see positivity around us.

But thats also true in terms of people you know, friends and so on, like to hear. Have you ever answered a "How are you doing" with a " I am not doing great" or "doing bad" ?. At worst, "things are going okayyyy..." is what you conjure up if you cant really put up too much of a pretence. "How are things going>", "how are you doing" is kinda a redundant question to ask most people, unless you are a really really close friend in which case you probably dont need or will not ask that question anyway.

Most friends/acquaintances you know would like to hear positive stories , everybody likes to hear about cheerful life events, about your achievements, most  would like to party on a happy news etc.

But its also about what we share. We are all more comfortable sharing positive stories about ourselves. Perhaps its only to the closest of friends that we can truly share our vulnerabilities.

But thats also the way we are conditioned. I mean , its kinda odd if you are going to share a sob story with folks whom you may know well/ok, but not all that closely. Its kinda ok doing it while you are young, but as you get older, you very well understand the way society conditions us to behave, you also understand that its unlikely most people are going to be wanted to be burdened with negative news from you

And social media  tends to reinforce those trends. We all like to post happy photos of wonderful places we have travelled, updates on great things happening in our life. Even if things are not going that great, its always nice to put up a pretence!

And whats more the design of social media is itself to reinforce such stuff.  Check this from facebook for example!
